Install SIS files on Symbian OS mobile phone
Files with the extension .sis are used to install applications, games and other software into Symbian OS-based mobile phones like Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, and Motorola. The installation is done from a PC with the use of an accessory data cable or through infrared or Bluetooth technology.
In order to create a .sis file, one should have the proper software installed. Examples of these are CreateSIS and MakeSIS. A file with the .sis extension is not the installer itself but just a packaging for the real program written in a .pkg file. All the commands are indicated in this text file, allowing the Symbian Operating System in the phone to instantly recognize and install the application or program upon receipt.
It is through the development of .sis files that new applications and games are created for mobile phones using the Symbian OS. Examples of applications are the ones that:
- help you tweak your cell phone;
- explore its contents;
- and create the possibility of new uses for the phone.
Files with the extension .sis are also essential components of games developed for mobile phones and packaged for installation. Game files come with the .sis extension and are easily installed once received on the phone through wired or wireless data transfer methods from a pc as mentioned above.
As in all file incarnations, be it for the personal computer or the cellular phone, the possibility of a virus infection is always there. Viruses for cellular phones are also plentiful. They have the potential to infect and cause much damage once installed through a .sis file in your cell phone since it automatically installs once received. It is very important to scan .sis files before sending them to your cellular phones. Be sure that your computer’s antivirus is updated before you scan the .sis file.
There are many files with the .sis extension that improperly install themselves or do not install at all. If the files are like this, one should consider problems with file associations. Thus, there is a need to use a registry cleaner. Registry cleaners are programs that find bad or file association issues and select them for deletion while simultaneously repairing malfunctioning file associations not synchronized with each other. A registry cleaner can provide solutions to improperly working .sis files. This means the next time the file is sent to your cellular phone, it must install itself the way it should.

I use Nokia 3230 mobile phone. Often when I transfer a file with .sis extension, it does not run. How do I correct this using registry cleaner. Do I first have to scan the .sis file with the Registry Cleaner in a PC before transferring it to the Nokia phone?
How do I make a software named “stopw.sis” run on my win2000, winxp or Nokia phone! The publisher of the software explained that if it does not run, it means that one is probably using an older version of PsiWin (v2.01); and to sort this out all one has to do is go to Psion’s website
(http://www.psion.com) and download the latest version of PsiWin
(Version 2.1). I tried this but could not find the psion file. Is it a registry problem or lack of this particular psion file in my pc?
Any solution for me? I will be glad if you could reply me via my email address.
Charles.
Thank you.
